SEATTLE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL (OTHELLO)

I was commissioned to create an artwork based on the idea of “Relay Races.” An exercise that requires people to work as a team and to pass something (usually a baton) that could be information on to the next person or generation.

What does it mean for the athletes of the past to pass on the baton to the present athletes? What wisdom and history do they want the community to hold? I chose that athlete to be the three-time hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens. For over 40 years, the Lenny Wilkens Foundation has given back to the community that embraced him as a Hall of Fame player, coach, and champion.

Relay races are a display of endurance, and endurance is what makes communities like Othello great.
